Restoring Ipods

Today saw the end of restoring the ipod touches that had gone home with staff over the Christmas break. As all staff members took a touch home with a range of applications and access to add some more to trial before we gave them to students all of the touches had to be restored back to their original settings. This was a long process! I believe that it was worth it though as all staff now know about how the touch works and its potential in improving learning outcomes for all our students.

Some positive comments from staff after the holidays included:
  • The ipod touch is a great tool for mobile learning.
  • There are plenty of apps that we could apply to the syllabus.
  • It is great for developing fine motor skills.
  • It's fun.
  • It kept me interested!
  • Apps are really worthwhile and challenging.
Some minus comments from staff after the holidays included:
  • The screen needs cleaning.
  • A case is needed to protect the ipod touch.
  • They are quiet addictive.
  • The power can drain quickly.
In response to the minus comments we have purchased some silicone cases and screen protectors. We are also trialing the parasync to charge twenty touches at once.

  1. Thanks Michelle, you have done a great job and spent a great deal of time restoring the ipod touches, thank you. It is very exciting trialling these different pieces of equipment and hopefully in the end they will save many hours of work. It was very important for staff to "play' with the touches so that they are all on board and can talk about the educational benefits of using them in the classroom. The beauty is, that the apps are very cheap, some even free. Looking forward to testing the studenst in the next couple of weeks to see the advances.

  2. I have had a great time this week doing the letter ID with kinder students. As a principal I think this is a great way to get to know the kinder students. Got a bit carried away with students that recognised most letters so tried to do running records as well, very excited when I discovered some could read up to level 2. Sorry kinder teachers, but I think you are going to have to put up with me in the room every spare minute I get. Very excited! 4 ipod touches went home today, found perfect matches to study over next week.
